TV Actor
Kevin Sorbo
Kevin Sorbo has enjoyed success on television for over 20 consecutive years, a feat rarely accomplished by an actor.
Sorbo quickly rose to stardom in the title role of the hit TV series, "Hercules, the Legendary Journeys” in 1993. The innovative action hour revitalized the entire action/adventure genre and fostered two spin-off series; "Xena, Warrior Princess” and "Young Hercules.” Sorbo also directed two episodes of the show and co-wrote one.
Sorbo has guest-starred on the hit shows "Just Shoot Me," "According to Jim," "Hope and Faith," "Two and a Half Men," "The Middleman," "Psych," and had recurring roles on "Dharma and Greg” and on FOX’s "The OC” in 2006-2007.
Since 1997, Sorbo has also been a spokesman for A World Fit For Kids, a non-profit organization that provides gang, drug, and dropout prevention to teens through mentoring programs.
At the age of 38, out of the blue, he began experiencing troubling symptoms in his left arm and hand, including intermittent pain, aching, tingling, and cold sensations. An MRI revealed that Sorbo had suffered three distinct strokes, accounting for dizziness and vision loss. The precise cause of his strokes remains unknown.
He recently wrote a book describing how this near death experience has affected his life, and is now telling his story on the Lifechangers stage to help pay it forward.

The mountain set may be seeing stars amongst the snow over the next few days.
Some of the more than three dozen celebrities who will attend at this week’s Fairmont Banff Springs Sports Invitational are expected to hit the slopes at Sunshine Village Thursday.
Among the stars on this year’s guest list are Alec Baldwin, Christie Brinkley, Peter Fonda, Brad Garrett, Marcia Gay Harden, Buzz Aldrin, Mark Messier, Jason Preistley, William Shatner and Alicia Silverstone.
The event is hosted by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and auctions at the Star Gazer Gala at the Banff Springs Saturday will benefit his organization, Waterkeeper Alliance, which advocates for the wise use of water.
Celebs will take part in a toboggan/snowshoe event at Sunshine about 10 a.m. Friday and a slalom event the same time Saturday, but may be spotted on the slopes at any time over the next three days.
“People can get within just a few feet,” said Crosbie Cotton, media coordinator for the event.
“The stars are usually very approachable.”
Since the event didn’t come to the Canadian Rockies last year, Cotton said many of the invitees are particularly excited to hit Alberta’s renowned slopes again this week.
Actor Alec Baldwin posted his excitement to Twitter Wednesday, writing “Banff, baby. That great hotel. Sunshine Village. Lake Louise. Kicking Horse. Ah, Canada. Pour la neige....”
Jenny Dunbar, regional director of public relations for Fairmont hotels and resorts, mountain region, said Saturday’s gala, which includes a red carpet reception, dinner, live music by Michael McDonald and both live and silent auctions, will be a thrill.
“It’s watching people walk in the door that you would normally see on TV,” she said.
Tickets for the gala are still available for $500 a pop at fairmont.com/banffsprings or by calling 403-762-1710.
Last year’s auctions raised more than $1 million.

Today’s Honoree is Kevin Sorbo

Today’s Honoree is Kevin Sorbo

As a strong leading man and a hunky Half-God, Kevin Sorbo brings a refreshing cadence to Hollywood.  In high school, the “Sorbs” excelled at football, baseball and basketball, but always remained close to the theater.  After graduating from Minnesota State University, Kevin joined an actors’ theater group and traveled to Europe and Sydney, Australia, where he modeled for print ads and appeared in over 150 commercials.  When he returned to the states, Kevin settled in Los Angeles and began making prime time appearances on shows such as “Murder She Wrote”.
Kevin received small screen stardom as Hercules on the hit  Hercules, the Legendary Journeys (1993-1999).  The series exploded onto the mainstream, airing in 176 countries and surpassing rating-topper “Baywatch” as the most watched TV show in the world.  Sorbo also directed two episodes and co-wrote one installment of the Hercules.
Sorbo went on to star in the lead role of Captain Dylan Hunt in Gene Roddenberry’s, Andromeda, which debuted as the number one, hour-long show in first run syndication and remained at number one for the next five years.
In 1997, on a hiatus from Hercules, Sorbo starred in the feature film Kull, the conqueror, followed by Walking Tall, the Payback and Walking Tall, Lone Justice, both released on Sony DVD. Other popular credits are Lifetime Channel’s Last Chance Café, Syfy Channel’s Something Beneath and Hallmark’s third highest rated film, Avenging Angel.  Sorbo is more recently recognized for his roles in The Santa Suit (2010), Meet the Spartans (2008), Fire From Below (2009), Lightning Strikes (2009), Prairie Fever (2008), Never Cry Werewolf (2008), Flesh Wounds (2011), Paradox (2011), and ABC Family’s DVD release of Tommy and the Cool Mule (2009). In 2010, Sorbo played Pierluigi in the Australian comedy, The King of Mykonos, which debuted in Australia at number one. Sorbo has since played opposite Kristy Swanson and John Ratzenberger in the independent film What If…, which premiered in August of 2010. The film remained in theaters for 5 months on strong word of mouth and was nominated for Best Family Movie of the Year 2011 by the Movie Guide Awards. Sorbo himself received the Movie Guide Award for Most Inspirational Performance of the Year for his portrayal of Ben Walker.
In 2011, Sorbo stars alongside Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt and Carrie Underwood in Soul Surfer, the inspiring true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton who lost her left arm in a shark attack.  Also set to release is Julia X, a 3D psychological thriller, an Italian/American feature, The Captives. The Coffin, Sam Steele: The Silver Chalice, SoBe Real, Avarice and two comedies: Poolboy: Drowning out the Fury, and FDR:  American Badass. Upcoming projects for 2011 and 2012 include the faith based movie, Abel’s Field and Sony’s A Thousand Tomorrow’s based on the Karen Kingsbury novel of the same name.
Kevin has had the pleasure of starring in many guest spot appearances on TV shows, such as “Hawaii 5-0”, “Gary Unmarried”, “Just Shoot Me”, “According to Jim”, “Hope & Faith”, Two and a Half Men”, and USA Network’s “Psych”, with recurring appearances on “Dharma & Greg” and “The OC”.
In real life, Kevin leads “A World Fit for Kids”, a successful mentoring model that trains inner-city teens to become positive role models school, fitness, sports, and uses them to mentor younger children. In 1997, the program was awarded the Governor’s Gold Star for the most successful after-school program in the state of California.  Then in 2003, Kevin was named national spokesperson, successor to Arnold Schwarzenegger, for the Afterschool Alliance; a non-profit organization working to ensure that all children have access to safe, enriching afterschool programs. Sorbo currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Samantha and three young children.

I know you will be excited with my guest Kevin Sorbo. You know him as Hercules in the show that surpassed “Baywatch” as the most watched show in the world, “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”  and as Captain Dylan Hunt in Gene Rodenberry’s “Andromeda," based upon writings from the late “Star Trek” creator’s archives. “Andromeda” debuted as the number one hour show in first run syndication and held that spot throughout its five year run from 2000-2005.

Kevin Sorbo has enjoyed success on television for over 18 consecutive years, a feat rarely accomplished by an actor. Sorbo quickly rose to stardom in the title role of the hit series, “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys." The immense popularity of the 5 initial 2-hour telefilms in 1993 resulted in the launch of a weekly series by 1994. The series not only became a breakout hit but the innovative action hour revitalized the entire action/adventure genre on television and fostered two spin-off series, “Xena: Warrior Princess”, and “Young Hercules." Sorbo also directed two episodes of the show, and co-wrote one installment.

Following the success of “Hercules”, Sorbo went on to star in the lead role of “Captain Dylan Hunt” in “Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda”.

In 1997, Sorbo made his feature film debut in “Kull, the Conqueror," a prequel to “Conan, the Barbarian."  Other films include, “Walking Tall, the Payback," and “Walking Tall, Lone Justice from Sony Studios,"  “The Last Chance Café," “Something Beneath," “Clipping Adam" and “The Avenging Angel” which aired on Hallmark summer of 2007 and was the highest rated movie in the history of Hallmark.  “Meet the Spartans” was a Feb. “08 release from New Regency and 20th Century Fox and opened in theaters nationwide as the number one movie that weekend edging out “Rambo."

Sorbo  shot another western for Blockbuster called, “Prairie Fever” which aired April, ’08 on ION cable.  Fall of 2009 Sci Fi cable will release “’Fire From Below." “Never Cry Werewolf” aired on Sci Fi cable, May ‘08 , and was the 3rd highest rated movie ever for the station.  “An American Carol” for FOX was released October, 2008. “Mule Boy” will air in 2009 for the ABC Family Channel.

Sorbo completed two other movies “Lightening Strikes” for Sci Fi cable followed by “Paradox” an independent feature film with in December of 2008.  He is currently filming “Tales of an Ancient Empire” along with actor Chrisopher Lambert which is scheduled for a December, 2009 release in theaters.  He is currently shooting on 3 more independent features.

Sorbo has guest starred on the hit shows “Just Shoot Me," “According to Jim," “Hope and Faith," “Two and a Half Men," USA networks “Psych," and had recurring appearances on “Dharma and Greg," and on Fox’s “The OC” in 2006-2007. In 2005, he signed an unprecedented development deal with ABC/Touchstone Television that resulted in the creation of “Bobby Cannon,” a half-hour comedy pilot written by Barry Kemp of “Coach” and “Newhart” fame.

In July 2009 Kevin filmed the film What If..., co-starring Kristy Swanson and Debby Ryan, scheduled for a 2010 Valentine's Day DVD release. Dallas Jenkins the director of What If? also appears on Rex Sikes Movie Beat to to view his page and lister click here.

Electronics Media Magazine named Sorbo TV’s third most bankable star behind Oprah and Regis.

Sorbo is also spokesman for A World Fit For Kids, a non-profit organization that provides gang, drug, and dropout prevention to teens through mentoring programs. He was more recently named national spokesperson as successor to Arnold Schwarzenegger for The Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization working to ensure that all children have access to safe, enriching afterschool programs by the year 2010.

Sorbo hosted his inaugural celebrity golf tournament in Las Vegas, October of 2008, which raised money for A World Fit For Kids.

A native of Mound, Minnesota, Sorbo is a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Sam, and three young children.

Kevin Sorbo to Guest Star... Winter TV Press Tour 2012 'Don't Trust the B----- in Apartment 23' Washington Post

Winter TV Press Tour 2012: ‘Don’t Trust the B----- in Apartment 23’

James Van Der Beek, Krysten Ritter and Dreama Walker star in “Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23.” (Rick Rowell - ABC)
James Van Der Beek told TV critics at Winter TV Press Tour 2012 he only won the role of James Van Der Beek on ABC’s new “Don’t Trust the B---- in Apartment 23” after auditioning “against six other James Van Der Beeks for this role.”
“I was lucky that four of them were not actor and two of them didn’t speak English,” the former “Dawson’s Creek” heartthrob said Tuesday at the tour, in Pasadena.
“When you pitched that you were arm wrestling Kevin Sorbo in a Canadian production of Shakespeare in the pilot, like, that’s when it was, like — solid!” “Apt. 23” creator Nahnatchka Khan noted to Van Der Beek.
The new series is about a naïve Midwesterner (the only kind of Midwesterner known to Hollywood) who moves into a New York apartment with the lovechild of Holly Golightly and a pirate, whose name is Chloe and whose BFF is Van Der Beek.
“Every once in a while I come back home to my daughter, and I say, ‘Sorry what I’m doing to the family name, kiddo’,” VDBeek said.
Critics wanted to know when Van Der Beek thought enough time had gone by after “Dawson’s Creek” that he could do a show in which it was interspoofed.
“I think once the residual money ran out,” he said.
He got asked if he still hangs out with his “Dawson’s” cast members.
I run into a number of them from time to time,” he answered tentatively. “You know, it’s like somebody you went to high school with. I think, as the years go on, the spans of time when you see each other kind of gets longer and longer. But you always have that experience.”
“Are you allowed to see Katie Holmes?” one critic wondered. (Holmes is married to Tom Cruise.)
“She’s going to be guesting on our show — just in a black shroud,” Khan said.
The creators went back and forth with the ABC Decency Police about the title of the new comedy. Khan said she didn’t mind getting saddled with “B----”, but she put her foot down at “Apartment 23.”
“When it was shortened all the way to ‘Apartment 23’ and lost that sort of the “Don’t Trust the” part is what I felt strongly about. Because, to me, that implies there’s something dangerous happening here, something a little bit different. And that’s what we wanted to maintain with the title – so I’m happy about it.”
