Sunshine and blue skies made for a picturesque day of filming in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze Tuesday. Sorbo acted on location at Joe Patti’s Seafood and on a boat behind a Gulf Breeze home.
“It’s a wonderful film,” Sorbo said. “It sends a good message. It’s nice to be a part of movies like this.”
The veteran film and television actor rose to stardom in the mid-1990s in the title role of the hugely popular “Hercules, the Legendary Journeys” television series. Since then he’s starred in many dramas, sci-fi and sword and sorcery films and television shows.
In his new film, Sorbo plays a reclusive father mourning the death of his wife who becomes concerned when he sees his son start to withdraw as well.
“His son starts to follow in his footsteps,” said movie producer Brad Allen. “That’s really what snaps his character back into it.”
Sorbo’s character escapes to a place called Angler Island, but locals will recognize it in the film as the Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Bay area.
“We’re shooting here in Pensacola because of a fictitious island in our movie called Angler Island,” Allen said. “So Pensacola Beach is Angler Island in this movie.”
Filming also took place earlier in the day at Joe Patti’s Seafood, which was used as the location for the seafood market that Sorbo’s character owns.
Jason Burkey, an actor based in Nashville, Tenn., plays Sorbo’s son in the film. He said that his character becomes a hermit, much like his father.
“He’s kind of a troubled guy,” Burkey said. “He kind of runs away from home, where he leaves behind this past where he was hurt.”
Burkey said that he has loved working in the Pensacola area.
“Pensacola is amazing,” Burkey said. “I just love the downtown area, and the beach is beautiful. The locations we’ve had have been incredible.”
Sorbo also said he enjoyed coming to Pensacola for the first time.
“It’s great, I love it down here,” Sorbo said.
The producer said that the majority of “A Matter of Time” will be filmed in Nashville, Tenn., but the movie is actually set in North Carolina.
“A Matter of Time” is produced by Affiliation Films, which is based in Tennessee.
