As
our Independence Day, the 4th of July, approaches it could serve us
well to read and think about these words spoken by Ronald Reagan more
than fifty years ago. On July 4th, show thanks for all those who have
given their lives to help to preserve our freedoms. To do any less is to
make a mockery of their ultimate sacrifices for us.
Every day our freedoms seem to become more and more restricted. At this rate, our children and grandchildren will not be able to share freedom with their children, they can only recite to them what they have read about how it used to be. Our country, our citizens, and especially our young people deserve better than that.
If we want to continue living in the home of the brave and the land of the free, then it's time we got off our butts and did something about it. If you believe in freedom, then pledge yourself to work to preserve what we have and rebuild what we have lost. Pledging our allegiance to our country should be more than just reciting words... let our actions speak for us.
Ronald Reagan said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
