I just don't understand how the minds of some people in the movie business work.
Since Friday when Kevin Sorbo, Austin Petersen,
and Free Talk Live started linking the new Alongside Night Official
Teaser Trailer, the trailer has had over 3,000 new views. And one result
of that is distributor inquiries coming in. Now, for an indie film,
this isn't going to be Sony or NBC-Universal asking to see the movie;
there is an entire tier of distributors who make a market out of selling
territorial rights to indie films at film markets, and if one of them
has anything approaching a decent track record working with the upper
reaches of independent films, they're worth showing your movie and
talking about what they think they can do for you.
I've already
set up one screening for a distributor for later this week and when I
got another inquiry I suggested doing the same -- at which point this
distributor balked.
I don't get it. If you're too lazy to set
up a meeting with me to watch my movie when I'm the guy travelling 300
miles to meet with you, why would you even think I'd not consider you
too damned lazy to market my movie effectively?
