This from a friend of mine in Florida. Yep….all is going well with the new health plan.
"I received the attached cartoon the same day I was notified that my health insurance was being cancelled. My wife, Claudia, and I are among the 5 million who will lose their current, inadequate coverage. It seems that our plan, which I thought fit our needs perfectly, was indeed inadequate — I had no idea. The deficiency is maternity coverage. Even though Claudia had me rendered inert 29 years ago and then five years after that, for medical reasons, she had to have her reproductive parts removed, we need to be prepared to have a baby even though it would take two acts of divine intervention for us to reproduce. I am really pleased than my new plan will cover this, albeit remote, possibility.
The more interesting part of this was the cost and the process. I got up very early and was successful at navigating the AFA site - a major surprise. After selecting the “Silver” option, the second most frugal on the list of four possible levels of coverage I was more than a little shocked to see my premium go from $746 per month to $1,926 per month. My annual deductible will clime from $5,000 to $12,5000. I will totally lose my health savings account and associated tax benefits. The increase in premiums and higher deductible over the next ten years will cost me $500,000 and that is only if the premium does not go up. Thank you, Mr. President. When our new little bundle of joy shows up, I might just have to name either him or her, Barack. I am just that appreciative!
I believe that the current scorecard is five million Americans have lost their health insurance while 40,000 have been able to get covered under AFA. I know that everyone in the White House and every American is proud of this accomplishment! Way to go Obama!!!
May you not be as lucky today as I have been. Trendy and politically correct is costly."
